On October 18, 2021, Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) introduced a bipartisan antitrust bill that would prevent dominant digital platforms owned by Big Tech companies from abusing their market power and favoring their products (self-preferencing) over third-party vendors. The legislation targets large companies like Google and Apple and goes in the direction of Europe’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), recently approved by the EU Council in July of 2022.

In January of 2022, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 16-6 to advance the bill. Sen. Chuck Schumer stated he aimed to put the bill to a vote by early summer but by August 1, Sen. Klobuchar said the bill will not get a vote before the summer recess. There is hope that a vote will take place between the midterm elections on November 8, 2022 and and the end of the 117th Congress on January 3, 2023., though its not much time.
