Context

While the EU adopted the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to unify all 27 member states under one privacy legislation, the U.S. does not have a single comprehensive federal privacy framework. Rather, the U.S. has multiple state-level privacy bills in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and Utah. There have been many calls from privacy advocates in the U.S. and business associations such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for a national federal data-privacy policy. Several proposals for such a law have been introduced in Congress but no bills have been passed yet.

Resolution Criteria

This question resolves positively if at least 3 reputable news sources publicly state that the U.S. Congress has passed a federal data privacy bill on or before December 31, 2022.
